Dear Trader,

In yesterday’s lesson you learned about the basics of trading price and time.

Today, you’re going to learn one of the best methods of trading price and time that originated from 13th century mathematics.

Don’t worry, although this method is as old as the hills, it’s still accurate and used by traders today. In fact, the Math behind Fibonacci numbers may even surprise you…

How Can 13th Century Mathematics Possibly Help Traders? The Secret Of Fibonacci Numbers

In the 13th century, Italian mathematician Leonardo Fibonacci discovered a series of numbers known as “Fibonacci numbers”. These series of numbers are as such:

0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21…

These numbers may not make much sense to you at the moment but there are lots of interesting properties about them. First off, let’s take a look at how we arrive at them:

By adding the number 1 to 0 and then adding the previous number in the series to form the subsequent number… the Fibonacci series is born.

1 + 2 = 3 3 + 2 = 5 5 + 3 = 8 8 + 5 = 13 and so on.

But what’s so interesting about this infinite series of numbers?

For one, the ratio of one number to its next highest is 61.8 to 100. Conversely, the ratio of one number to its next lowest is 161.8 to 100. And if you multiply the ratios 1.618 by 0.618, you’ll get the whole number 1.

Nothing very interesting at the moment, eh?

But wait - There’s more. Lots of occurrences in nature, such as the petals on a flower, population of rabbits and cows, and leafs growing on branches follow this simple pattern. Man has also been found to appreciate shapes and structures built in the “Golden Ratio” of 1.618 to be aesthetically pleasing.

In fact, when the Fibonacci ratios were first discovered, man thought they had found God’s number because this ratio can be easily observed in so many cases around us.

As a trader, it may interest you to know that these set of numbers can also model potential market behavior and allow us to predict potential pivotal points.

Tomorrow’s lesson will teach you how to apply the Math behind Fibonacci to trading price and time.
