Hi Trader,

In the previous lesson, we talked about motivation. More specifically, we talked about the need for long term, intrinsic motivation, and about how it should correlate with your overall vision.

I talked about how you need to be inspired and excited about your vision, and about how you can draw motivation from your vision.

But excitement alone is NOT enough to keep you going…

http://www.ericstips.com/tips/lesson17/

In addition to explaining the importance of this principle, I’ve detailed 7 specific ways for you to successfully commit to your vision.

In the video I’ll even give you an EXTREME example of a man who signed a contract with God!

There are three action steps today, so please don’t skip this one.

Be on the lookout for Lesson #18, and as always– please post your questions and comments on the blog.

Hey Trader,

Today, I want to talk about a setup that I learned from a professional day trader. I call it a 30-minute entry setup.

It?s a simple method for taking low risk positions intraday in stocks that have the potential to move explosively and has opened higher than the previous day?s close or opened lower than the previous day?s close.

Using the trend reversal pattern that I wrote about in the last newsletter, let?s say for example that we spot a stock named ABC that has reversed sharply to the upside according to the setup rules for a sharp trend reversal like the one that was outlined in the last newsletter.

The following day we see ABC has gapped upwards, meaning that it?s opening price is higher than the previous day?s close. When a stock gaps up after a reversal pattern like this it typically means that this is a ?professional gap?. A professional gap is when the pros on the stock exchange floors are accumulating shares of a stock because it has suddenly become in huge demand so everybody is trying to hop aboard this train.

After these conditions are met, we step aside for approximately 30 minutes to make sure that this gap won?t close downwards. If it doesn?t, then we place a buy order over the high set thus far intraday and attempt to catch an explosive rally to the upside.

I know of traders that do nothing but trader these moves in the morning to make there living and then take the rest of the day off.

Take some time and examine this technique and see if it works for you and if it does then take the time necessary to master it.

Yours,

Hi Trader

Welcome to your second issue of “The Genie Journal”.

In this issue we cover the topic:

“But What if I Lose on My First Trade? “

If this happens to you, and let’s face it, it is quite possible, what do you do?

Well, we would never tell you what to do with your money. But we can however share with you what we do when we lose.

When we have a losing trade, we go back to the Genie Rules and almost always there is something there we missed or did wrong.

Other times, it is just the market and there really is nothing we can do.

Losing is part of trading. And you must learn to accept it as just an aspect of the game. Because trading is just probabilities.

Like us, you will lose. No question about it.

But what matters is that when you win you win more than when you lose.

The proportion of wins is not what is important. It is the size of your wins compared to your losses.

However, if we lose three trades in a row we stop and take a break from trading for a few days.

Some common mistakes that you might be making if you have a losing trade are listed below.

Avoid the 12 Most Common Mistakes!

You can avoid the most common option trading mistakes if you follow these guidelines: 1. don’t limit your strategy to calls - buy puts also and overcome the bullish bias 2. correctly determine the trend - up for calls, down for puts; sideways for covered calls 3. buy enough time - at least 4 to 6 weeks 4. exit with 2 weeks to expiration 5. avoid OTM options 6. don’t underestimate the effect of volatility 7. don’t over commit your funds - you can lose 100%, so limit your exposure 8. don’t put all your eggs in one basket - diversify over several stocks and use both calls and puts 9. don’t trade without first determining a target profit and exit point 10. never try and strike it rich from one trade 11. don’t use market orders and don’t trade at opening or closing time 12. consider the next expiration month if you can’t find a suitable trade in the current month.

It is wise to remember the following issues when trading options.

1. they have their own risk/reward 2. time depleting asset 3. higher leverage 4. less liquidity 5. can have wide bid/ask spread 6. slippage in fast markets 7. not all brokers deal with them 8. higher brokerage

But on the upside here some reasons why we still prefer to trade options.

Options Benefits 1. they are cheap to buy 2. flexibility - can trade both up and down trends 3. versatile strategies 4. limited risk - can’t lose more than you have put in 5. leverage 6. can use them to hedge 7. limits number of stocks to review 8. can generate good cashflow 9. puts have less risk than short selling.

With covered calls there are a couple of particular problems to avoid: o don’t buy small cap stocks - they can suddenly drop in value o don’t become overextended on margin o if the stock price drops beyond your stop loss, exit your position and sell the stock.

We follow these rules and it helps cut our losing trades.

Hi Traders,

Last week, I alerted you to the release of the step-by-step Forex Income Engine course that’s totally taken the Forex trading community by storm.

Well, if you’ve checked the website lately, then you know that only 61 copies of the course remain and the enrollment page will be expiring on TUESDAY, December 16th, at 11:59pm eastern time.

See the latest inventory count here:

http://clicks.aweber.com/y/ct/?l=Cp 0gV&mfmexJ.zMUQXN9&b=rCUZDOgydb5ByYcjWv7vlA

WHY IT MAKES COMPLETE SENSE

If you’re still struggling with the Forex markets, or are just sick and tired of all the confusing, conflicting, and needlessly complex information out there about Forex…

….then I really encourage you to take 30+ year market veteran Bill Poulos’s Forex Income Engine for a test drive.

Why? Well, I was thinking about what specifically it is that I like the best about this course and what sets it above most of the other methods and courses I’ve seen. Here’s what I came up with:

** COMPLETE — This is one of the most complete Forex trading courses I’ve ever seen. Period. There’s material to get beginners going quickly, and it’s structured in such a way that more experienced traders can jump right into the “meat” of the methods.

Further, it’s a multimedia powerhouse — from the screen capture CD-ROM videos to the full color reference manual to the detailed “trading blueprints”. It’s designed to make sure you really understand all the concepts quickly and effectively.

** CLEAR — Bill’s teaching style is among the best I’ve ever seen. He speaks in a clear, nurturing way that steps you through all the material. It’s very apparent why so many traders keep coming back to Bill’s courses.

** CONSTANT — I think of this as the “surprise” of the course. Bill constantly follows-up with his students after they get his course. He mentions this on his open letter, but I really believe this is the true value of his course. His students receive regular new bonus video lessons, and Bill is fanatical about offering concise, thoughtful answers to his students’ questions.

FAIR WARNING

I cannot promise that copies of the Forex Income Engine will be available when you visit the web page - it may already be completely sold out.

If that’s the case, please put your name on the waiting list. Bill may release more copies in the future, after the initial “spurt” of student support inquiries slows down, but I can’t say when that may be.

If any copies are left, you can claim one here:

http://clicks.aweber.com/y/ct/?l=Cp 0gV&mfmexJ.zMUQXN9&b=rCUZDOgydb5ByYcjWv7vlA
Best regards,

Jens

p.s. I just checked Bill’s real-time inventory counter before sending this email to you and it now reads 53 copies available. Time is running out. You can check it here:

http://clicks.aweber.com/y/ct/?l=Cp 0gV&mfmexJ.zMUQXN9&b=rCUZDOgydb5ByYcjWv7vlA

Although the mid price to close up this iron condor is trading at $0.10 or less, we simply can’t get a fill at $0.10. Closing this trade to lock in the profit at this point in time is a good idea despite having to pay a little more. This iron condor has worked well and we hope the next one will be just as well.

In summary, we sold this iron condor for $235 credit per entry on 19 Nov and today we are buying back this trade for $18 per entry. We made a profit of $217 per entry using a margin of $770. As such, we made 28.18% for this trade. This advisory will cost $28.18 in your bill for December.

We are readying ourselves for new trades for Jan. In view of the uncertainty surrounding the market at large, we will still remain cautious and trade lightly.

Good trading,

For a net price of $2.30-$2.35 Credit or better. Net margin required: $770 per entry.

Trade Analysis

This is our first trade for December. Although we have a good November, I believe it is still very important for us to trade in small numbers in this volatile environment. We still need to watch our risk closely. There are a few pending news-driven events to move the market in an erratic manner in the coming days. Whether the auto-industry will be bailed out eventually will swing the market in a big way. I wish I know what will happen. If the government decided to bail the big 3 up, there may be a major rally. However, on the other hand, should any 1 of the big 3 go, there may be a new low in the market. We are trying to restrict the number of positions we have until this issue gets sorted out. So this first trade for Dec is our first tap in the water.

Looking at this iron condor technically, we are risking $770 to make $230 for each position you put up.This translate to a risk/reward ratio (R3) of 3.35. As you can see from the P&L chart below, our breakeven points are 542.3 on the upside and 337.7 on the downside with a probability of 72.24% of success.

Of course we won’t wait until it is too late to adjust our trade. We should be pretty prepared that a single day’s move may be all it takes to kill our condor have throw us into the maximum loss. So far, we have never suffered the maximum loss and we are not going to let it happen. As usual, we will set up our mental stop so that we have a mental guide on when to adjust.

Since we are short the 540 call and the 340 put, we shall place a buffer of about 50 points from our shorts. This means we should be on high alert when the RUT breaches 490 or 390. It doesn’t mean that we must and will make an adjustment when the RUT trades pass 490 or 390 but it does mean that we have to be prepared to make an adjustment.

We are constantly looking for new trades for Dec. However, in view of the current uncertainty that we are facing in the market, we want to be extremely careful and short-term with our positions. So be prepared for quick trades that may last only days or even trades that are directional in nature. Again, we may leg-in into an iron condor or we may do simply one side of the market via a vertical spread.

Good trading,

Voyant Puts a Game-Changer in the Lineup

A couple of weeks ago when Voyant International’s (OTCBB: VOYT) CEO Dana Waldman published an update letter, we really didn’t hear anything unexpected or new… except for one item - a new product called RocketConnect. He hadn’t said anything about it before then, nor since then, and he didn’t really say much about it in the letter. Today we’re finally getting some details on why it’s important…. you know, like what it is and why we should care. In a nutshell, it’s pretty exciting stuff.

RocketConnect is a utility that makes broadband faster. No surprises there - their flagship product RocketStream does the same thing. There’s a difference though.

RocketStream is designed for use by organizations that need to send and receive massive data files that would normally take hours to transmit, even with a broadband connection. With RocketStream the transmission may only take minutes. Most of their customers so far have been large corporations, who tend to handle files measured in gigs. So, RocketStream addresses a size issue.

RocketConnect is designed to solve a speed issue at the retail, end-user level.

Broadband is fast - no doubt about it. However, even broadband can get gummed up between your computer and where your local ISP begins and end your specific connection to their hub. The industry calls it the ‘last mile’; every other span in the web connection is easy to maximize, but that last mile is subject to all kinds of pitfalls.

RocketConnect maximizes the speed at which the last mile is utilized, making the final link in the chain up to 500% faster. Best of all, it requires no new hardware … it’s simply software that can be deployed by the ISP using their current infrastructure.

Don’t underestimate the significance of this new product. Even as fast as broadband is, a surprising number of broadband subscribers are dissatisfied with their Internet’s connection speed. Translation: they may go shopping for a new ISP. Clearly ISP’s want to retain their customers, so rather than risk losing them by not meeting their customer’s expectations, this low-cost solution is a no-brainer solution.

The press release (below) states - and I fully agree - that DSL providers should be particularly interested.

Internet connections are inherently slower over phone lines than they are through cable television lines, so DSL providers are automatically behind the eight ball when it comes to speed. Now with cable ISPs ramping up their potential connection speed from 10 Mbps (megabits per second) to 20 Mbps and even 30 Mbps, DSL’s maximum capacity of about 10 Mbps (and usually just 6 Mbps) just isn’t all that competitive. If DSL providers want to stay in businesses, they’ve got to improve the customer experience. RocketConnect can do just that.

Even so, the RocketConnect application can be used by any type of broadband service … DSL, cable, fiber optic, or satellite. And that’s where things get really exciting from an investor’s perspective.

                         Dollars & Sense

Do you know how many broadband subscribers there are in the United States alone? There are 65 million of them … 35 million cable subscribers, and 30 million DSL users. Worldwide, there are about 400 million. That translates into an annual market of about $10 billion. Every single one of them is a potential RocketConnect candidate.

I’m not sure what the actual business/revenue model is for Voyant’s RocketConnect is, but if it’s anything like RocketStream I think it will be a combination of revenue sharing as well as a flat, upfront fee. (Voyant is understandably quiet when it comes to giving out those details, so we have to connect a few dots ourselves to get some concept of scope here.)

Let’s just hypothetically say that 5% of broadband users start to use RocketConnect, and Voyant’s monthly ‘cut’ is only 1% of the per-user fee. That’s still a $5 million annual opportunity. Even if my numbers are off base (I feel they’re conservative though), you can get a feel for the scope here … I think this should be a multi-million opportunity for Voyant. Investors should be excited.

On a semi-related note, I think its worth pointing out that Voyant International has been mostly unfazed by the recession, particularly on the technology side of their business - RocketStream has continued to incrementally pump up the top line. Perhaps the only exception to the observation might be Aviation Broadband, but even those tests and talks are proceeding. I just don’t want any of you to overlook VOYT. In this environment a lot of companies look completely hopeless, but Voyant isn’t even close to being one of them.

By the way, you’ll soon get a chance to get a full update on where the company is, and where it’s going next…

                       Hear It For Yourself

By the way, mark December 17th on your calendar. That’s when we’ll be listening in on the second strategic update conference call for Voyant International. The call will take place at 11:00 a.m. PST (2:00 p.m. EST).

To monitor the call in listen-only mode from the U.S. or Canada, please dial 800-533-7619 five to ten minutes prior to start time for registration. International callers should dial +1-785-830-1923. The event passcode is 9403082.

If you were in on the call last time, you’ll already know it was actually a pretty interesting review. Most of the time these calls are just a mouthpiece for the company’s agenda, and fairly one-sided. Voyant’s call was a little more back-and-forth than one might expect, and we learned some things that weren’t necessarily available somewhere else.

RocketStream’s New RocketConnect Platform Tackles Critical “Last-Mile” Connectivity Bottlenecks in Consumer Broadband Access

New Broadband Acceleration Platform to Help Telcos and Other Internet Service Providers Improve Customer Satisfaction at Minimal Cost

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., December 15, 2008 - RocketStream, Inc., a subsidiary of Voyant International Corporation (OTC-BB: VOYT) and a developer of technologies and solutions to accelerate digital content delivery over high-bandwidth IP networks, today unveiled its new RocketConnect broadband access acceleration platform.

RocketConnect allows telcos and other Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to speed the effective bandwidth of their customers’ broadband access connections by up to 500% without the expense of any new physical infrastructure. ISPs can thereby provide their customers with a more streamlined on-line experience, from accelerated web browsing to faster downloads.

Consumers currently spend over $10B worldwide on broadband access to the Internet. However, these so-called “last mile” connections to the consumer are often the source of aggravating speed bottlenecks that hamper the consumer’s online experience.

“With almost one third of DSL and cable modem subscribers dissatisfied with the performance of their access connections and considering alternatives, incumbent ISPs need to fight hard for customer retention,” commented industry analyst Adriana Waterston in a communication with RocketStream. Ms. Waterston is vice president of marketing and business development at Horowitz Associates and the author of a new study titled “Broadband Content and Services 2008.”

RocketConnect represents an extremely cost-effective solution for ISPs to deliver better service and enhance end-user satisfaction. RocketConnect can be used to enhance DSL, wireless, satellite, cable, or fiber access connections, and because it is entirely software-based, if can be installed quickly and with minimal disruption to existing customers.

RocketConnect creates a streamlined, software-defined tunnel over the access connection between the ISP’s server infrastructure and the customer’s modem or computer, where conventional access methods often present a bandwidth bottleneck. Unlike other proposed solutions that require an infrastructure replacement to enhance last-mile connectivity, RocketConnect provides a fast, easy-to-deploy solution that keeps ISP costs low while enhancing consumer satisfaction.

“Telcos and other ISPs are desperately searching for low-cost ways to gain a competitive advantage, and RocketConnect alleviates some of the industry’s most vexing access performance problems,” said RocketStream President Jay Elliot. “RocketConnect represents a simple - yet effective - way to boost broadband access speeds. We expect that DSL providers, in particular, will find this to be a great tool for customer retention and satisfaction.”

  About RocketStream

RocketStream develops and markets software-based data transfer acceleration solutions that make Internet data transfers fast, easy to use, secure, and reliable. RocketStream is the ideal way to transfer large data over long-distances, without requiring additional spending on new hardware. Available in client/server and point-to-point architectures, the RocketStream suite is capable of speeds up to 200 times faster than traditional methods. The powerful RocketStream Protocols overcome the detrimental effects of network latency on file transfers and operate over any IP network - private line, VPN, or Internet - regardless of whether the physical medium is electrical, fiber, satellite, or wireless. RocketStream is a subsidiary of Voyant International Corp. (OTC-BB: VOYT). More information can be found at http://www.voyant.net and http://www.rocketstream.com.

NOTE: Knowing the ins and outs of the stock market isn’t always enough to become a successful investor. If you want to know all of my secrets (especially the “hidden in plain sight” ones), then go and read THIS:

http://www.independentvalueinvestor .com/MultiplyYourMoney.html

Tra der,

In the next edition of the “Independent Value Investor”, I’m going to go deeper into what to look for in applying the second secret: Buying At The Right Price.

Once you’ve found some great companies to invest in, you’ll want to make sure that you’re not paying too much for them, and giving yourself the best chance to make some great money. I’ll go into that next time…

In the meantime, here’s a question that I thought you might find interesting…

*** QUESTION ***

When you invest in a stock do you get a certificate? If that’s true then? How about if you are buying and selling various stocks all day long? do you get a certificate in the mail a week later for a stock that has been long gone because you sold it? (Apparently people keep their stock certificates in a lock box or something ? )

If there is a natural disaster or a fire should you grab your stock certificate papers and run out of the house with them?

— T

MY COMMENTS

   Hey T,

This is a great question, because most people don’t really think about the certificates that are issued when they buy stock…

In general, your stock certificates would be held by your broker.

   So, what’s a broker?

A “broker” is a company that is licensed to be a go-between with buyers and sellers. What these brokers then do is make sure that all buy and sell transactions are cleared properly.

With their license, brokers have custody of their clients’ assets, including cash AND stock certificates. When you set up an account with a brokerage firm, you are giving them the ability and responsibility to hold your assets on your behalf.

That way, when you buy stock, they hold your certificates, and when you sell stock, they make sure the certificates are passed along to the new owner.

You get account statements about what you own from the brokerage firm, but the brokerage firm is the one that holds your stock certificates on your behalf.

So, no need to worry about a fire — your broker is holding your stock certificates for you!

By the way, if you’re ever interested in owning just one share of stock so that you can actually own the certificate, you can go to www.OneShare.com — you can buy one share of stock from Barnes & Noble, Disney, Harley-Davidson and a whole bunch of other companies. This isn’t really for an investment, but it’s pretty neat to actually own the certificate…

***

I hope you found that interesting. I think OneShare is a really interesting way to own stock or even give them as unique gifts to friends and family…

Until next time, Mic

“How to stay motivated…”

Hi Trader,

In the previous lessons, we’ve talked about getting a vision for your business, setting goals, and creating a business plan.

However, all the effort you’ve put into building the foundation of your business will be for nothing unless you follow through and take action.

So today we’re going to talk about staying motivated…

http://www.ericstips.com/tips/lesson16/

You might be expecting a list of “tips and tricks” about how to stay motivated on a daily basis. I’ve provided a couple links where you can find that stuff, but that’s NOT the aim of this lesson.

I wanted to get to the core of the issue instead of just offering a band-aid to patch it.

If you’ve had trouble staying motivated (with business or ANYTHING), then this lesson is for you.

View Lesson #16 at…

http://www.ericstips.com/tips/lesso n16/

Be on the lookout for Lesson #17, and as always– please post your questions and comments on the blog.

Have a great day!

Hey Trader,

I want to share with you a simple pattern to watch for that reveals a possible trend reversal.

Let?s say that on Day #1, for example, price opens within the first 10% of that day?s final range and thru the course of the day price then declines and closes within the bottom 10% of that day?s range.

The following day on Day #2, price opens within 10% of the final day?s range and thru the course of the day price rallies and closes within the top 10% of that day?s range.

If Day #2?s price range is equal or at least almost equal to Day #1 then this type of pattern reveals that a sharp reversal may be in play.

These types of patterns can be found almost daily and daily price bars over thousands of stocks.

The reason these patterns form is because on Day #1 bad news or rumors cause panic and shareholders begin selling the stock off in a panic. The following day on Day #2 the stock either becomes attractive to value investors or the rumor or bad news that was released was found to be false or simply not relative anymore.

These types of opportunities are ripe for stock and options traders. Next newsletter, I?ll talk a little about how to take advantage of patterns like this.

Till then, take care.

Good Trading,
